My technique is an amalgamation of several different modalities.  You may experience several of the following types of body-work in one session at Castro Massage:

Swedish – This is the most common form of massage in the West and is characterized mostly by long, fluid strokes and kneading with light to firm pressure.  The objective is to promote deep relaxation, improve circulation of blood and lymph fluid, increase ease of movement and enhance a person’s state of health.

Sports/ Deep Tissue – An evolved form of Swedish massage used to access deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, (fascia), which are unreachable using the traditional Swedish techniques.  Most sessions will involve this modality in some form.  While it can be more intense, my application of this technique is tuned to your bodies responses, permitting deeply held tension to be released.  It promotes flexibility, loosens muscles and relieves swelling.  Deep tissue massage can help diminish pain and restore full range of motion after injuries.  It can also enhance your body’s athletic performance abilities.

Shiatsu – A traditional Japanese healing art that uses firm finger pressure applied to points along the body’s meridians or “energy pathways”.  Shiatsu also employs stretching to loosen tissue, avoid spasms and increase range of motion.  The main purpose is to balance the body’s chi or vital energy.

Trigger Point Therapy – This modality can be defined as focused and concentrated pressure to specific “trigger points” (painful, irritated areas in muscles) in order to break cycles of spasm and pain.

Energy Work - such as Reiki and Healing touch, assumes that the human body is not completely defined by its physical mass, but has a larger perimeter of layers of energy (aura) surrounding it.  Illness, injury or pain can block the energy field that surrounds us.  I seek to consciously restore harmony and balance, enhancing your body’s natural ability to heal itself, by channeling energy through me to certain chakras (your body’s energy centers) and other areas on your body.  Working with the life force is an important and well documented holistic approach to healing that touches on all levels: body, mind and spirit.
